We always encourage any mother with milk supply problems to contact their local board-certified lactation consultant. They can rule out any health problems that may affect breast milk supply. They are also trained to work with you to increase low breast milk supply and address any breastfeeding concerns or problems.
The following is some tips that may help you while using Breastea.
Make sure that you always keep your breasts "emptied" out. This is the most important thing you could do for your breast milk supply. Breastfeed or pump every 2 - 3 hours. Breastfeeding on demand is preferable. If you are strictly pumping, pump every 2 -3 hours with a dual, hospital-grade breast pump for fifteen minutes at a time. During the night, set your alarm and pump every 4 hours.
Hospital-grade breast pumps rent for about $50 per month. Most medical supply stores carry one. If not, contact your lactation consultant to find a place to rent one. These are the best pumps on the market and can make a big difference in your breast milk supply. If you are pumping due to a medical issue (baby can't latch, etc), many times your health insurance will cover the cost of the rental. You will need to speak to your lactation consultant or pediatrician about getting the correct form.
If you are breastfeeding and pumping, always breastfeed first. When baby is done, pump for five or ten minutes. If you are going to be away from baby for several hours, make sure to pump every 2 - 3 hours.
As your breast milk supply increases, it's especially important to empty your breasts. Breast milk supply is based on supply and demand. If there is no demand, there will not be much of a supply. To be effective, regular and frequent breastfeeding or pumping must accompany the use of this tea.
Most mothers see an increased breast milk production within the first day. For others it could take longer. Generally, moms report an increased milk supply in the first 48 hours. It's important to complete your full order.
After starting Breastea, you may find that you are making more breast milk than you need. Most chain stores offer a breast milk storage bag that you can use to freeze back the extra breast milk. These are very handy, and you will probably want to keep a box on hand.
Drink Breastea daily. You will want to drink it on a regular basis to keep a steady supply in your system. Many moms find it easiest to take a glass with them when they go to breastfeed or pump. It's important to continue drinking it until you have completed your full order. Drink between 1 - 2 quarts a day. Everyday. One quart is equal to 4 cups (8 ounces each). Drink Breastea until you no longer need the extra breast milk.
After a day or two of drinking Breastea, you should notice that your sweat has a sweet or syrupy smell to it. This is generally a light smell that is not noticeable to others. If you don't smell fenugreek on your skin or sweat, you need to increase your daily intake of Breastea. If you are drinking 4 cups a day, try increasing to 5 or 6.
If you notice that your sweat has a syrupy smell to it, this is normal. It means that the herbs are working, and this is a good sign. Stick with your set schedule.
Using a sweetener like honey or sugar is recommended. Add according to taste. Breastea is mild and pleasant, and doesn't taste bitter. Sweetener is a perfect compliment to the light, herbal taste!
Breastea can be drank hot or cold.
When preparing, please make sure that you don't boil the tea bag. Boiling the tea bag can cause it to burst.
Tea will keep for up to 48 hours in the refrigerator.
Directions for use: Heat water to boiling, and empty into a one-gallon container. Add 1 tea bag. Steep for 15 - 20 minutes. Steeping in a covered container is preferable as this allows a greater amount of the herbs to be released. Remove the tea bag and discard. Add sweetener.
